At New Year’s Eve dinner I asked our server to take a picture for old times sake. At a certain age it becomes a little less about how “ahmazing” we look and more about capturing the pleasant memory. However, it’s human nature to want to look good even as the face begins to soften, weight comes on or off and our image begins to reflect some of the journeys of life we’ve been on.
So as our charming server took my phone she suggested that she use the flash since the restaurant lighting was so low. Hmmm, actually, LOW lighting is my BEST lighting I informed her as she laughed and used the flash anyway. I mean I’m totally okay with low lighting since the shadows fade a few crinkles. I’ve earned those crinkles but must we put them front and center with “better” lighting?
I’m meeting a long-time friend today and we plan to get a table on the cafe’s patio. It’s chilly out so I’m bundled up and hoping for the warmth of some sunshine so we can enjoy a long catch-up.
So here’s the thing, sunlight reveals. Good friends—the really good ones who know you and get you—they bring something to the table, they can add value to your life and brighten the darker days. They can bring the sunlight on a cloudy day without really trying. Yes, sunlight reveals things we may wish to fade into the cover of darkness but more importantly, the light that a friend can shine on you reveals great things as well. Things you don’t see in yourself or forgot about. Things that need to come back to life.
Isn’t it wonderful how sunlight reveals?
