In a Nutshell

Here’s a little treat I’ve been setting out for my favorite squirrels these last few chilly mornings.

Sometimes a crow gets there first and that’s just fine. But today a new nutshell was needed after one of my daily visitors carried the whole thing away! As much as I’d love to have them eat out of my hand, I don’t want to offset the balance of nature any more than I already have by inadvertently teaching them all humans are friendly (cuz we’re not).

Though it’s unlikely that a living frog will ever pay a visit to the old fountain, today for the first time, I observed something so touching; something I’d never noticed before. Yes, the fountain is a little beat up after three decades of exposure to the elements. And for that matter, I have no solid explanation as to why the head of one of the frogs has gone missing. Life is surely full of mysteries.

When you look closely you’ll see that dear Mr. Headless Frog has placed his hand on the back of his companion. Awwww! Then, when I leaned in a bit, I noticed that his associate has an ominous crack on it’s neck. At this point the future for this one is fairly inevitable.

This morning’s discovery just speaks to me . . .

It’s good to go through life with someone willing to extend a hand to you, especially when, regardless the reason, they’ve already experienced a few bumps in the road themselves. A crack here, a lump or bump there and STILL retaining the ability to extend a hand of friendship or support. Now that’s what I’m talking about . . . in a nutshell. ❤️

  1. Yes, and I really love the picture. Not just because of the meaning you’ve attached to it, but because it’s just a really good picture.
